Our Curriculum
At Rishton Methodist Primary School, we provide a literacy-rich, broad and balanced curriculum designed to inspire, challenge and support every child to flourish. Rooted in our Methodist values and our vision ‘rise up… take courage and do it’ (Ezra 10:4), our curriculum reflects our commitment to developing the whole child—academically, socially and spiritually.
What Our Curriculum Looks Like
Our curriculum places literacy at the heart of learning, ensuring strong progression in knowledge, skills and vocabulary across all subjects. Lessons are carefully planned to build on prior learning, deepen understanding and make meaningful connections.
We are committed to inclusion. All children—including those who are vulnerable or disadvantaged—are supported to overcome barriers and achieve their full potential, enabling every child to flourish both in school and beyond.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Enrichment is a key part of life at Rishton Methodist. Through educational visits, visitors and a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities-including sport, music, computing and the arts- children are given opportunities to discover talents, develop interests and build confidence.
These wider experiences also play an important role in supporting children’s spiritual development, providing opportunities for reflection, awe and wonder, and helping children to explore their sense of self, purpose and place in the world.
We are committed to ensuring that all pupils can access these opportunities, so that every child benefits from a rich and varied school experience.
Developing the Whole Child
Our curriculum actively promotes children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Pupils are encouraged to be reflective, respectful and responsible, preparing them for life in modern Britain and the wider world.
Through our Christian vision and Methodist values, we nurture children who are compassionate, ambitious and resilient, with a strong sense of belonging and identity.
The Difference It Makes
Our curriculum ensures that children leave Rishton Methodist as confident, articulate and enthusiastic learners. They are well-prepared for the next stage of their education, with strong academic foundations, high aspirations and the personal qualities needed to succeed.
