Opal Class

We have a saying in Opal, the minimum expectation is maximum effort, which gives all children a clear ethos to work hard, be resilient and make mistakes – learning from them.
Over the past 12 years, I have had the opportunity to work in every year group from Reception to Year 6. Since the age of eight I have always known I wanted to be a primary school teacher, setting the outstanding example to my children that my teachers once did to me. I enjoy teaching all subjects in our primary curriculum but have a real interest in Reading, Writing and Maths, as these are the corner stones to accessing wider learning.
Across Rishton Methodist, I lead on Geography, History and Computing. For our children, understanding how the world works is fundamental and this is the clear focus within teaching of Geography, History and Computing at Rishton Methodist. Alongside this, I also find great pleasure in reading.
This half terms class novel is The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle. The reasoning for choosing this novel is because of it brilliant use of vocabulary and its use of ‘show don’t tell’ techniques within its action sequences.
